A Black Light Party or Glow Party is at the top of the most current and in demand teen party ideas list.

Usually reserved for a dance party, you can use blacklight and glow items as part of any teenage party.

You can also use blacklight in creative ways, such as doing a glow olympics.

Basically, you’ll want to switch out your light bulbs for blacklight light bulbs. These bulbs give off a sort of purple light, and make colors appear differently. White and neon colors, such as green, yellow and pink will glow in the dark of the black light.

Getting the Black Light Party Lit, or...Getting the Glow Party Glowing

Here are some fun ideas for teen parties to help you really make use of your blacklights:

-Use black light party cups

-Use white or neon plastic tablecloths

-Decorate with black light party balloons

-Make banners that are painted with neon paint or black light paint

-Tell your guests to dress in white or neon colors

-Pass out glow sticks, or other glow in the dark items

-Hang up purchased black light posters (really popular in the 1970’s!)

-Keep the black lights as a surprise! Great for a surprise teenage birthday party. Just tell the party guests to wear neon or white, and then when they glow it they will get a fun surprise too!

Now that everything is glowing, what shall you do?

DANCE!

Helpful Hints

Before your party, test to make sure that you have enough black light so the room will glow! You can switch out the light bulbs and try out some neon and white in the room. Some black light bulbs are more powerful than others, so you really need to make sure that you have enough lighting to create the special effects that you want.

Planning a Black Light Slumber Party:

Think of the fun possibilities for teenager slumber parties!

We had one at our house, and here are some of the fun things we did for our teenage slumber party games:

  • Before the party, make or adapt a twister game with black light paint

  • Have a blacklight scavenger hunt.

  • Site visitor Abigail from PA suggests having a glow stick hide and seek game. Here's how to play "Girl Hunt": one person is it and all the lights are turned off. Each player is given a glow stick. One girl is chosen to be the "girl hunter" and has to try to find all the hidden players and put them in "jail." The Girl Hunter is also given a BIG glow stick to help find her suspects. The last person not "in jail" gets to be the new Firl Hunter!!"

  • Go out for the evening to go Bowling. Blacklight Bowling that is! Check and see if your local bowling alley offers it! If not, you could always make your own with a home bowling set by painting it in colors that will glow.
