To make these cakes as easy as possible, use a stack up squares and rectangles of cakes to resemble a stack of books.

You can also create a cake like this one by using a sheet cake, and then placing a "spine" of cake on top to resemble an open book, laying face down.

I thought this was a neat idea for a graduation or event, such as a milestone birthday. Use a before and after photo. You could even use this as a wedding anniversary cake, with a wedding day photo and a wedding annivesary photo being used.
