The first big event that I ever threw was a Mardi Gras Theme Party. It was such a success that I caught the “Party Throwing Fever!”
Here are some ideas that we used, along with a few others for you to select from!
Invitations:
Write the invitations on a Mask
Enclose some Mardi Gras beads with the invitations
Decorations:
Balloons and Streamers in Purple, Gold and Green…the more the better
Beads (Purple, Gold, Green) EVERYWHERE
Gold Plastic Coins/Doubloons – scatter on tables
Masks covered in glitter and feathers
Boas in Purple, Gold, Green
Colored lights around the room (leftover from Christmas)

Food & Beverages: (other than standard chips/dips, etc.)
Mardi Gras King Cake
Coffee & Beignets
Hurricanes
If you are serving dinner, a Crawfish Boil or Gumbo would be great, or even Jambalaya
Music:
Any Party Music
Dixieland Jazz
Zydeco
Hint: Start the party with music towards your theme, and then after your guests arrive move the music toward regular party music – tunes you and your friends will love. These are often songs that you would have listened to as a teenager or in college. Everyone enjoys listening to music that they are familiar with!
Activities:
Hand out
beads
as guests arrive.
Encourage Guests to come dressed for Mardi Gras and award prizes for the best, craziest, etc. You could even crown a Mardi Gras Queen and King! Have a few extra beads on hand for guests who arrive and aren’t in costume.
If you don't do costumes, have everyone wear a mask to the party, or hand them out as people arrive.
Since

Create a trivia game about Mardi Gras history.
